Locations have changed, buildings have changed and even the name has changed.

When first organized it was known as Winter Haven Mission and remained a mission church until 1943. Soon after its organization, work began on a little frame building, painted white with a window on either side of the front door and a bell tower. Located on the corner of Fifth Street and Avenue A, SW it was ready for occupancy in 1909. Perhaps it became known as First Methodist Church in 1907 with the first ministerial appointment by the Conference.

Actually, the name of the church was First Methodist Episcopal Church South. (In 1844, because of political unrest over slavery, states rights, and impending secession, the Methodist-Episcopal Church split, establishing the Methodist-Episcopal Church and the Methodist-Episcopal Church South.) In 1939, the two divisions, reunited and we became First Methodist Church. In 1951 when we moved in to the present building we became Beymer Memorial Methodist Church; in 1968 when the Methodists combined with the Evangelical United Brethren we once again had a new name: Beymer Memorial United Methodist Church.

Besides sites, buildings, and names other things have changed over the years also. We have had rich years and lean years, not only financially but also in attendance, participation, and program. The on thing that has remained constant throughout is the willingness, determination, love and commitment of a strong core membership who strive to keep Beymer a community of faith, a source of Christian fellowship, and a vessel for the out-pouring of God's love.
